About Me

Hi, My name is Sam and I am a Year 5 student at Mt Carmel School. I wanted to participate in the Summer Blogging as I was with my mum when Rachel came to talk to her class. I asked my mum if I can join. Finally she agrees and I am very keen to journey through with so many children around New Zealand.

Figure Skating

Figure skating

On the first few weeks of the holidays I juggled between blogging and figure skating,
however I spent more time skating. I went to Paradise Ice Skating,
Botany nearly everyday. I spent 4 hours there every time I go.
I met up with my skating friends and we worked on the skills that we learnt
at skate school. We had lots of fun.
For Christmas, I got the most amazing present - my figure skates!!!!!!
I am very thankful to my Mum and Dad.
On the 30th of December, a tragic ankle injury disabled me to get back on the ice.
But my ankle is getting better and I can’t wait to get back on the ice.

Day 2 Bonus Activity - My Favourite Meal

My two favourite dinnertime meals

The first meal I love is barbacued steak with two pinches of seasoning, extra vegetables and some rich sweet chilli sauce drizzled on top. Mmm delicious.

Seafood is always a pleaser for me. Especially pre-cooked prawns and half-cooked mussels. Related image

Day 3: It’s All in the Family

Pros

How I feel growing up in a big family when we first arrived in New Zealand.

Would I enjoy being a member of such a large family? Why or why not?
I have a small family, however, my parents grew up in a big families like the early settlers.

Cons
We support each other in the chores and everything.

I would like to be the youngest so I don’t have to do so much work, however, I will have to do everyone’s *pui - meassge. It is not always pleasant.

I will have to play with my own sibblings and don’t invite other friends over.

We don’t have much toys and we make up our own games.
I live in a crowded house and will have to share every thing.
I don’t have a room of my own. I shared with my sibblings. No privacy at all.

I will work tirelessly everyday. I have to complete my chores before school. I will be too tired at school.

Food is not much and it is shared with everyone. I don’t like it at times.

Everything was a struggled, but I was statisfied with what I have because my friends were the same situation.

Hitting a High Note…

Hitting a High Note…
My favourite waiata- Purerehua (butterfly)
I like this waiata because of the figuritive language that has been used in this song. He compared his daughter to a butterfly. What a lovely and fitting comparison.
Composers quote
"I wrote this song for my daughter whom I hope one day will grow up to be a beautiful free butterfly."

I am a child who wants to grow up and be just like that, “to be free like a butterfly.”
