About Me

Hi, My name is Sam and I am a Year 5 student at Mt Carmel School. I wanted to participate in the Summer Blogging as I was with my mum when Rachel came to talk to her class. I asked my mum if I can join. Finally she agrees and I am very keen to journey through with so many children around New Zealand.

Day 3: It’s All in the Family

Pros

How I feel growing up in a big family when we first arrived in New Zealand.

Would I enjoy being a member of such a large family? Why or why not?
I have a small family, however, my parents grew up in a big families like the early settlers.

Cons
We support each other in the chores and everything.

I would like to be the youngest so I don’t have to do so much work, however, I will have to do everyone’s *pui - meassge. It is not always pleasant.

I will have to play with my own sibblings and don’t invite other friends over.

We don’t have much toys and we make up our own games.
I live in a crowded house and will have to share every thing.
I don’t have a room of my own. I shared with my sibblings. No privacy at all.

I will work tirelessly everyday. I have to complete my chores before school. I will be too tired at school.

Food is not much and it is shared with everyone. I don’t like it at times.

Everything was a struggled, but I was statisfied with what I have because my friends were the same situation.

  1. Hi again Sam, you've done a really great job with this activity. Well done!

I love how you've divided it into a table, used colour to code the pro's and con's, and even provided a note at the bottom to translate a phrase you've used. Terrific stuff!

You've gone into great detail considering both the positives and negatives for life with a large family. You have spoken about the sharing of food, space allocation, completion of jobs/chores, supporting one another, toys/games etc.

Since you've weighed up both sides of the argument, which do you think you will side with?

Personally, I think nine is far too many, around five might be ok. It would depend on the size of your house and how much food your parents can provide. It might be nice always having players available for games etc.

    Thanks Sam, I'm really impressed!
    Billy
