About Me

Hi, My name is Sam and I am a Year 5 student at Mt Carmel School. I wanted to participate in the Summer Blogging as I was with my mum when Rachel came to talk to her class. I asked my mum if I can join. Finally she agrees and I am very keen to journey through with so many children around New Zealand.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday
On the 13th of February we had an Ash Wednesday Mass. Ash Wednesday mass was so holy and full of people. I was nervous and shaking, but my confidence was boosting up as I started talking. I was the person who says the introduction. We celebrated Ash Wednesday with our new priest Fr.Ioane. He was awesome. His homily was talking about Almsgiving, Fasting and Prayer. When he was talking to us about almsgiving I thought about what should I do for almsgiving, so I thought I would help around in the house with anyone who needs help.

Second of all, he talked about Fasting and he said fasting is just not about giving up all the fats it also giving up what you mostly love. So I thought about that again and gave up watching television all the time. When it was time for distributing the ashes I went to father to get my ash on my forehead and he said “Be faithful to the gospel and turn away from sin”. I replied “Amen.”

When the mass ended, I accidentally rubbed of my ash on my forehead and I felt angry with myself. But then again, I felt happy in the end.

My Writing Learning Intentions

I am learning to improve in my writing by:-

Identifying the subjects and the predicates in my writing.
Look at the type of verbs in my writing.
Add adverbs to my writing.
Change some verbs into more interesting vocabulary.
Example- I sang horribly at church.
Subject- I
Predicate-Sang horribly at church.

Athletics Day

                                     Athletics Day

Athletics day was finally here.
It was time for the big event of the day.  I walked into the classroom, got changed into my house colour and got ready for the event.  The bell rang. We had to all get into our houses.
My good friend Sione To’a walked past our Kea house a a little leprechaun. I was pouring my head out with laughter as he pretended to be a little girl and twirling his hair around all of us.

It was time for the obstacles to start. I started with the shot put event. That was my biggest challenge for the day. When it was my turn, I wish that I was Valerie Adams. My biggest fan in any shot put events. When I pushed the ball off my hand it went across the the flags and I made it. I was so proud of myself. Next we moved clockwise to Mrs.Pole she was in charge of the tabloids. When I did the obstacle I felt so tired when I came to the zig-zag cones. But I didn't stop because my house was cheering along.

Then we moved along to Mrs.Deeney who at the beanbag throw. I thought it was a silly game but it was quite interesting. It was fun because we got to run from one end to another.

Lastly, it was time for my relays. I found the relay easy because there were only Genevieve, Catherine and myself that was running. So that meant we were taking turns at who will come first, second and third. It was finally time to know who came fourth, third, second and first. Fourth place went to Kiwis. Third place went to Keas. Second place went to Tuis and First place went to Geckos. They were so happy and proud of themselves for trying so hard.

Soul Friends Mass

Friday morning we began with our Soul Friend mass as a whole school.  We had to make our promises to our soul friends Soul Friends are two or three friends who bond to get to know each other very well.  My soul friend is Stanley and Sione To’a.  I promised to them and that I will commit myself to listen to them everyday. During our mass we listened to Father Ioane's homily. He was also talking about how special Saint Patrick's day was. Saint Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland. He grew up in a rich family. He was captured when he was 16 years old. He escaped one night during a raiding party. Then he wrote many prayers about God. Then he also mentioned our new Pope. Pope Francis the first. He was from Argentina. Then he had his final prayer and the mass ended.
