About Me

Hi, My name is Sam and I am a Year 5 student at Mt Carmel School. I wanted to participate in the Summer Blogging as I was with my mum when Rachel came to talk to her class. A Fairy Tale

Mrs. Chicken and the Hungry Crocodile.

By Maxine.

One morning, Mrs.Chicken took her bath in a puddle. “Cluck cluck,” she said proudly. “What a pretty chicken I am! Big bright eyes. Short, smooth beak. But I can’t see my wings. This puddle is too small.” She walked down to the river to get a better look. She didn’t know that Crocodile lay in the river all day long, waiting for her dinner. Mrs. Chicken leaned over the water. “Hmm” she said. “ I still can’t see my wings. I see scaly green legs. And a long mouth with sharp teeth. But where is my beak?” Crocodile lay still and waited. “Yum, yum,” she thought. “That’s my dinner”. He waited and said. So Mrs. Chicken took another step into the and then crocodile snapped her leg and ate her up and she was never seen again.

Swimming Experience

Crash, Bang, Splash. I bumped into Malia. We played a game called Capitan's Coming!!. We had to do the Torpedo. But instead I ran fast as I could because I can not swim!. My experience inside the pool was that I could learn how to float and swim if i just do what we do in the pool.
So if you want to know how to swim go and do
swimming . If you are scared of the water so don't be afraid of the water, because the sooner you are getting better in the water, the better you are good you are in the water and you do stuff like this booming, swimming, diving, and floating in the water and that is what i am learning in our Saint Pius X School Pool.
I do enjoy the water!!
SWIMMING IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Muffin Magic

Greasy pies and soggy sandwiches.
‘ I have a few announcement to make’, Mr Drake said, reading from the morning notices.‘ Our tuck shop lady, Mrs Peabody, fell down some stairs last night and was rushed to the hospital with a broken arm and leg. That means there will be no more hot soup or home baking for the next few months’. Room Fourteen groaned. We’ll make a get well card for her during art this afternoon’, Mr Drake said, glaring at everyone over the top of his glasses. ‘Since you are all concerned about her health and not about your own stomachs.’ Kenneth turned around and whispered to Mark. ‘ No hot soup and cake! They were the only decent things in the tuck shop. Everything else is greasy and soggy’.

Sinking and Floating

We have been looking at why things sink and float.
It is amazing what happens in nature.
This week we checked our prior knowledge, you know, what I already have in my mind.
Our next step was to make some predictions about why a rock sinks , bone floats, why a ten ton ship doesn’t sink and a ten ton ship submarine does.
We tested a solid ball, spoons inside a bag, little rocks, a bead, clay, paper towel, a bark and a spoon.
I wondered what other mystery will we learn about in our science next week.
My name is Maxine Vaihu

Mana Polynesia!

In St Pius x school hall there was a sign in the hall and it said “MANA.”, I and all the St Pius children and principal sat down. Saw the MANA sign I wondered what was that word. Next minute the Polynesian show was about to start then this man had north American Indian clothes it was interesting because there were 7 hula-hoops in front of him i was so thrilled to see him dance to a south American Indian dance he said he was going to do the actions to the song so we can understand and we did and it was a beautiful song and i loved it.The next thing he was about to do is to do creatures and thing’s with the hula-hoop we were all shouting because it was so fascinating how he does his moves and it was completely amazing to see him do all these stuff and he is old.He is lucky and i know he will be blessed with holy spirit.Next he was about to change in front and we were like uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! and then we were all laughing.

Mary Mikillop Show

Today we had a show called Mary Mikillop. We had two people acting it. One came from Christchurch and one came from New Town. There names were Julia who was a women and Scott who was a man. Now Julia done the introduction and pretended to be Mary Mikillop and Scott pretended to be Donald, Father, Dad and Kelly Kelly. It started when Mary Mikillop and Kelly Kelly were playing in a billy cart. Kelly Kelly, pushed Julia in the billy cart very fast and she fell into the buckets, she was laughing and got out. Scott who was playing Kelly Kelly was selling little boxes of matches and going around in a circle saying “matches matches.” and then Mary Mikillop said i’ve got a penny that i can buy matches with and he said “oh oh oh you want to buy some matches” then, Mary Mikillop said “well this is my only penny left and it is for the kids in the orphanage. I really enjoyed it.
There can be no doubt that my learning time
has been improved when interactive computer maths included in the lesson. We often use TUTPUP and MATH MAGICAN and i am getting good at it. On TUTPUP it is a maths game and it is kind of a fast game there’s maths, algebra, maths mix, times table. The maths is a decision of adding, subtracting, multiplication, divide.
After you have chose out of those three you choose what level like easy peasy, simple pimple, lickety split, okey dokey, uh oh, smarty pants, boffin box, area 51.Now let me explain to you about MATH MAGICAN. Now math magican is exactly the same as TUTPUP.

Kites

WOW Kites!!
"Oh no we can't flyour kites outside now". On Monday it was a rainy day. People from Matariki came to teach us how to make KITES!!!!!!!. There was a lady who spoke to us her name was Elle. She said “she is from the Auckland Council and she takes care of preparing stuff like Matariki stuff.” The classes that were there were rooms 3, 4, 5, and 6.

After she asked what class were here, she showed us some flags. Some flags were as big as the house i live in and then she told us that when it is a special occasion, they make flags that are bigger than the hall. Next she showed us how to make a kite. Then she invited a room 3 girl to stand up so she had to fly the kite to the other side of the hall so Sammy ran and started it was flying when she was running. Elle told room 3 to stand up and hold hands in a circle and then sit down so she told the rest of the classes to do the same thing as well.

After that Genevieve and me had to give out the paper to the room 6 people and then two boys from room 6 gave out two sticks to each room 6 person. Next thing was that we had make our kites and decorate them. Following that we had to stand in a square and Elle had to call out a class to fly there kites across the room and we had to leave because it was only a hour session so they had to leave. They had to fly away.

So if you want to learn how to make it here are what you need and here is how you make it.
What you need:(Materials)
1. Piece of paper (shaped like a diamond).
2. One piece of strings.
3. Two sharp sticks.
Here are the steps(the method /process).
1. Flat the piece of paper in front of you.
2. Hold the two sticks in front of you and put them on the lines on your piece of paper to cover the black lines on the sides.
3. Now you need to place the end of one string on the diamond corner and the other on the other side of diamond corner.
4. After all those steps this is the final step the Matariki people come around and ask you if you want a knot on your finger or your wrist.

So there you have it and that was the end of our session.
BUT WE HAD A CHANCE TO FLY THEM AROUND THE HALL.

Litter in the World.

There is no doubt that no one should litter in the world. If we continue then most places in India is polluted. It is obvious if we litter we make the world dirty. Imagine if we littered, we would pick up all the rubbish in the World. At the end of the day people think about littering.

My holiday

Sunday 28 March 2011

9.00 am On a Sunday morning I was so lazy I did not feel like getting up for church and getting ready. My mum said “get up” but I did not want to get up because my eyes were hurting. I did not want to wake up and open my eyes. My brother came in and saw me still lying down so he decided to play a trick on me so I would get up and get ready. He put some water in a bucket and tipped it on my head and said “WAKE UP!”. So I said “I am going tell mum you, pouring water on the chair and you poured it while I was still asleep, that is bad manners, you wet me”. Then he said “alright don`t tell on me”, But I did!!!!

The Athletics Event

Excited children gathered in front of the classroom waving banners and flags, chanting and wearing coloured clothes blue, red, yellow and green. Why were things different to a regular school day?
Such a special day for athletics on March 18, 2011.
Mr.Coakley stood up and said a few words before we started our athletics, each group of athletes were sitting in their school houses, KEAS, TUIS, KIWIS and the last group was GEKOS. After Mr.Coakley said his words the children cheered and Mrs Pole stood up and said “This race is for the five year old girls and boys only, line up behind the house leader who is going to take you to where Mr Gaffney is waiting.” Mr Gaffney said “five year old girls line up in your own track and get ready to run”. When Mr.Gaffney stood with the blocks in his hands and standing behind the starters table where he officially stands before the start of each race with red and green flags. He said “on your marks get set” but something was strange around the track Mr Gaffney didn’t say 'go' he hit the blocks together and then the athletes took off running so fast down their lanes and I said to myself “why didn’t Mr. Gathney say go?” but something hit my head and then I said to myself again “Oh I know the problem they only say “GO” when it’s a running practice but when it’s the day of the event or occasions they hit the two bricks together and then they “RUN”!
I missed out on looking at Claudia’s run which she came first all the time on her runs both at practice and in the real event, I was distracted by someone. I should be proud of her when she's little and besides she won for our house and we are all proud of her like me because she earned points for our school house when she wins every single run.
When the juniors races had finished it was time for the seniors to run their races over longer distances than the juniors even a 800 meter race which took them around the track twice.
When it was the ten years old race I had to line up with Catherine and Julia along with others. When we went to the race track I was so nervous and scared to race against Robertana who is in Gekos and we knew that she was hard to beat because she was very fast. When Mr Gaffney said on your marks get set go. I ran as fast as I could but Robertana was leading, even Cathrine could not catch her. She is also very hard to beat like Robertana.
Well the day continued with more racing including relays and novelty races and finally it was the cheering competition. I think Gecko’s won this as well as many of the races. Yes Gecko’s won the house competition again.
Well I really enjoyed the day and I think I may start my practise earlier next year.

Athletics Practise

Did you know we had an athletic on a Friday afternoon?
Well it took a long time to prepare because people were talking and holding us UP! but here comes the FUN!
We had to hold the Baton when we ran. We had to run with it around the cones in front of us and run to the back of us and go around it again and give it to the next person.
Next, we had to sit down. I was in group six together with Elizabeth, Anastasia, Dorothy, Desiree and me. We had to listen to Miss Oldfield's instructions. When she said "GO!" Elizabeth our leader ran as fast as she could and then when she finished her running, she past the baton to Dorothy who did the same thing to.
After we all had our run, we sat down and we were the first group to sit down and we won the first round.
After, we had to stand up and do it again because Miss Oldfield told us to, BUT the thing we forgot to do was when we are going to pass to the person that's running we had to give it to the person that's going to run.
After we all had a trial we stopped what we were doing and went back to class. Room5 was the first to leave to go back to class and then room7 had to go and line up and petrol people had to go. Finally room6 was the last one to leave the field but we didn't go back in the classroom because Miss Oldfield was supposed to go down to the people that were on petrol's and that was the end of the DAY!
