About Me

Hi, My name is Sam and I am a Year 5 student at Mt Carmel School. I wanted to participate in the Summer Blogging as I was with my mum when Rachel came to talk to her class. I asked my mum if I can join. Finally she agrees and I am very keen to journey through with so many children around New Zealand.

Hitting a High Note…

Hitting a High Note…
My favourite waiata- Purerehua (butterfly)
I like this waiata because of the figuritive language that has been used in this song. He compared his daughter to a butterfly. What a lovely and fitting comparison.
Composers quote
"I wrote this song for my daughter whom I hope one day will grow up to be a beautiful free butterfly."

I am a child who wants to grow up and be just like that, “to be free like a butterfly.”

  1. Hey Sam,

This is Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey blogging team! I hope you had a great weekend and feeling fresh to start a new week!

I have never heard to Purerehua but I will listen to it later as I have a Waiata CD at home :) I really like how you have explained why you like the song in detail. I also love the fact that it's composed for his daughter and how he compared her to a beautiful butterfly. I agree with your comment that "it's lovely and fitting comparison".
I'm sure you will also become free and able to fly high like a butterfly :)

My favourite waiata is Pokarekare Ana, you should have a listen! It's considered as a New Zealand's unofficial national anthem - it's very sweet and catchy!
