Week 1 - Activity 2: Setting Sail
As the ocean got wild, the home island dwindled, my heart sunk with sadness as I left you behind and all the great times we shared. However, my mum assured me that it will be exciting in our new place. Days became weeks, weeks became months before the land of the long white cloud appeared before our eyes. It was exciting, however, nerve wreaking. I was very nervous about this new place. I was worried about the people, the place and how I could make friends with the children.
Most nights I lay awake watching the stars twinkle while the waka rocked me to sleep. Sometimes I cried when I think about you and our fun times.
We are nearing this place, I see a lots of trees, a very greenery island. I will update you when we have settled.
Missing you
Sam
About Me
Hi, My name is Sam and I am a Year 5 student at Mt Carmel School. I wanted to participate in the Summer Blogging as I was with my mum when Rachel came to talk to her class. I asked my mum if I can join. Finally she agrees and I am very keen to journey through with so many children around New Zealand.

Hi Sam,
ReplyDeleteMy name's Ruby and I'm one of the people who will be blogging with you as part of the Summer Learning Journey. It's great to see that you've been working through these activities! Well done!
This is a great letter! I like how you've talked about how nervous the settlers were. They definitely would have been nervous! It's also great how you've talked about watching the stars while you slept. Did you know that the Maori settlers used the stars for a very important reason? Can you tell me what that is?
Have you ever been on a boat before? I have a few times but I always get very sea sick so it's never very fun.
I look forward to reading more of your blog over summer.
Cheers,
Ruby.
